Internet Perceptions

Internet Marketing- Fact or Fiction?

Perceptions about the Internet are running rampant. Web developers are getting rich off the frenzy to get on the Internet. So how does a company rise to the top while other are getting lost in the Internet jungle? First you need to separate fact from fiction.

Fact or Fiction-“I already market on the Internet. I have a website.”

Fiction - This could not be any further from the truth. This type of thinking has lead many companies to spend their money foolishly on a website that was destined to fail.

Fact or Fiction-“My website should get lots of hits.”

Fiction - A good website gets a lot of visits not hits. Hits are manipulated by the amount of graphics on a page. Therefore 1 visit may equal 20 hits. Be careful of a web developer that talks about the hits their sites get.

Fact or Fiction-“Build it and they will come.”

Fiction - I think we all are starting to figure out that this isn’t true. If you don’t market your website no one will ever find it. Being found in the Internet jungle is the key to a good website.

Fact or Fiction-“Website marketing starts before you ever build your site.”

Fact - You must understand what your potential clients are doing on the Internet before you can build a website that will entice them to use your company. Optimizing your website with the right search terms enhances your chances to be found.

Fact or Fiction-“Everybody can benefit from a website.”

Fact - If done properly and the expectations are set accordingly then every website

has chance to be successful. Spending your marketing dollars wisely has never been more important especially in today’s economic climate. The Internet has revolutionized how companies should look at marketing. Gone are the days of hoping your message reaches your target audience. Your target audience is already on the Internet looking for your products and services. Who will they find today? You or your competition?
