Winter is upon us and that means extra stress on our cars
Preventative maintenance is important at this time of the year. The Car Care Council estimates that 85% of all cars are deficient in some manner. Here is a checklist to help you prevent winter car problems.
- Check your coolant (antifreeze); coolant should be flushed and refilled every two years in most vehicles.
- Stop and go driving in Edmond is normally considered severe driving. If that is your normal driving pattern, change your oil every 3,000 miles.
- Make sure all fluid levels are proper.
- Check your battery and exhaust system.
- Be certain your heater and defroster are working properly.
- Keep your gas tank at least half full, decreasing the chances of moisture forming in the gas lines and possibly freezing.
- Check tire tread depth and pressure.
- Check to see that all lights work.
- Replace wiper blades every six months. Check out the new “beam blades.”
- Use special low temperature washer fluid.
